It just has to be configured. Let’s Encrypt gives free SSL certificates that last 3 months if your hosting company doesn’t supply one. In the case of the latter, I use a plugin called WP LetsEncrypt – One Click SSL & Force HTTPS that makes it easy to install and update the certificate later on.
