Web Designers Corner – 5

The following are my internet picks for this season:

Cool site for publishing your own books:
With (myebook.com), we’ve made it possible for anyone to upload, or create from scratch; beautifully simple or adventurously complex page designs and covers online, in no time. What’s more, you can publish your book with a single button and release it to the world before the (virtual) ink’s dry! You can create as many publications as you want. And it’s all free.

A cool local business search engine:
(http://www.thinklocal.com/) is a search engine for local businesses. With over 17 million U.S. business listings we’re committed to connecting our users with the businesses they are seeking in their town.

A cool professional networking site:
(http://www.mysolutionspot.com/) A free professional networking website.

A cool tool to research people:
(http://www.pipl.com/) There are various reasons why you might need to search for people, you may need to find a lost relative, an old flame, a classmate or a business contact – but if you are using a search engine such as Google or Yahoo to search for people, you have probably realized by now that it might work in some cases but in most cases it won’t. Pipl’s query-engine helps you find deep web pages that cannot be found on regular search engines.

Add your business to Google Maps:
(www.Google.com/LocalBusinessCenter) Local Business Center Listing with stats.

A cool royalty free music site:
(http://musicbakery.com/) A great site to purchase royalty free music to use on your site.

Great news for e-commerce sites:
Google adds “Parameter Handling”
(http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=147959) to reduce duplicate content in Google’s index and make a site more crawlable by search engines. Read the page to understand the new feature in Google’s WebMaster Tools.

A cool tool for collaborating with others on tasks:
(http://workspace.office.live.com/) – a free service to share individual files up to 25 megabytes with 5 gigabytes of personal space to store files. It can also be used for collaboration projects with Microsoft applications.

A cool tool for sharing files with others:
(https://www.mesh.com/) – a free service that allows one to create a mesh (Live Desktop) which includes any devices you add and the folders you choose to sync and share. It comes with 5 gigabytes space to access and share across multiple platforms and computers.
