Customizing the Look & Feel of a Blog…
Ogden McGahanFebruary 19th, 2007

I installed this blog so that I could mess with the look and feel of it and see if I can bend it to my will. I find that I definitely can modify it any way that I want and that it just takes time to rewrite the codes.
First, I changed the background image to match my site by editing the css file. I also adjusted the css file to match fonts, background colors and spacings. I edited the header file so as to get my flash banner up and running. I added the footer table replacing the old one from the default blog template. all the while checking to make sure my changes stayed valid XHTML. Just finished testing the search feature and adding an Akismet anti spam plugin. All in all, I am very please with the seemless integration of the blog with my website and the quantity of new daily hits in less than 24 hours.
I am already receiving hits because this blog automatically pings the blog update services. “Update services” are tools that let other people know when the blog is updated. This blog automatically notifies popular update services by sending a XML-RPC ping each time I create or update a post. In turn, update services process the pings and updates their proprietary indices with my update. Now people browsing blog search engines can find my most recent posts! It can’t get any cooler than that.
Feel free to contact me if you require this service.
