"Amber Sands Of Time" (Listen to a Heavy Metal Rendition)

The dripping hot sun bakes my tanned skin,
as magnificent dunes travel their slow paths,
across a waste of expanse,
colorful mirages dance,
as I open my mind's eye.

I find myself on a golden silent desert plain,
pyramids watching,
sentries to my fame,
golden chrome sand,
in the hourglass in my mind's hand,
running,
running from between callused fingers.

The green river Nile on one hand,
the ridge of Mokattam on the other,
as I gaze out the bare window of my heart's desire.

Meanwhile,
the red and black stones are cool to my grasp,
as I gander the city from a most prodigious height,
here in this dark minaret,
my My Tye tower in Cairo,
the sands of time whirl in the distance.

I am the Phoenix that consumed himself with the addiction fire,
who rose renewed from the ashes of my desire.
Heat waves dance on the amber sands of time.

Suddenly,
the temple of Hercules at Canopus,
shakes with the memories,
as pyramids settle,
silent witnesses to the madness of an age,
A Mameluke king,
Sultan Selim,
readies to take siege of Cairo,
Pharaohs home of sorrow,
while a religious man yells prayers from the mountain
Heat waves dance on the amber sands of time.

Meanwhile,
in another time and same place,
a mortician readies a dummy mummy for sale as
heat waves dance on the amber sands of time.
